그래도 운치있는 뉴욕 지하철

한국에서 오신분들이 뉴욕의 지하철을 타보신후 이구동성으로  뉴욕 지하철은 왜 이렇게 더럽고 냄새나냐고 불평합니다.  거의 매일 뉴욕의 지하철을 타는 저 역시 지금도 황당한 경험을 종종 합니다. 한국의 지하철과 비교하면 모자라는 점이 수도 없이 많습니다. 게다가 주말에는 여기 저기 보수 공사하느라고 지하철이 안다니는 경우가 많습니다.

그렇지만 이 지하철을 조금 자세히 들여다보면 매력적인 부분들이 여기저기서 보이기 시작합니다.특히 1904년에 시작되었다는 사실을 접하면 뉴욕 지하철이 대단해 보이기 시작합니다. 저는 세계에서 가장 오래된 뉴욕 지하철이 대부분 4개의 선으로 이루어져 급행과 완행으로 나누어 져 있다는 사실에 놀라지 않을 수 없었습니다.  어떻게 그시절에 사람들이 이러한 생각을 했는지 모르겠습니다. 그리고 지하철 역입구 중에는 귀엽고 운치있는 곳이 많이 있습니다.  그리고 지하철 안에서 이루어 지는 거리의 악사들의 연주는 매우 수준이 높습니다.

I couldn't help but be surprised by the fact that the world's oldest New York subway consists of mainly four lines, divided into express and local lines. I don't know how people in those days had such an idea. And among the subway station entrances are many cute and quaint places. And the performance of street musicians in the subway is very high quality.
